Lost Passport and Travel Credentials

posted by jcctravel on Jun 1st, 2008 at 3:31 pm

Before embarking on your international travel SCAN your passport, birth certificate, and driver's license.  Email them to a secure address that you can access while you're away.  This can be very helpful if your passport or other credentials become lost.

Lost Passport - Contact nearest U.S. Embassy or consulate

Lost Passport somewhere between boarding your flight and reaching Passport Control - Follow rules of the country you are visiting.  Most likely you'll be sent to a secondary inspection area.  There you can contact your embassy or consulate.

ALWAYS keep your passport number recorded in a separate area.  This will expedite the process should you need to vouch for your identity.

Willing to help if possible.......call 219-308-9242 or 800-385-6077  Ext. 4557

China Earthquake and Tourism

posted by jcctravel on May 29th, 2008 at 11:58 pm

The earthquake and aftershocks that hit China starting on May 12 have, of course, impacted the travel industry in the country.  The death and destruction there are a sad reminder of our human frailties.  The epicenter of the quake is in eastern Sichuan province approximately 50 miles from the capital city of Chengdu, the jumping off point for flights to Lhasa in Tibet.  Chengdu received extensive damage and 4,276 deaths have been reported there.

However, much of the country has escaped unscathed.  Beijing, for example, the site of the 2008 Summer Olympics, is located about a thousand miles northeast of the epicenter.  Other tourist destinations like Macau, Hong Kong and Shanghai are several hundred miles away from the quake center and received no damage.

Tourism, where advisable, can be an aid to the country at this time in areas remote from the death and destruction.  Macau, for example, is a very interesting municipality in that it is the only place in China where gambling is legal.  Macau is positioned to rival Las Vegas as a gambling mecca.  The number of casinos in Macau is expected to nearly double by the end of 2009.

As better reports come in on the extent of the earthquake damage, travel plans to China and the 2008 Summer Olympics can be pursued with more certainty.

Spring Tours International has partnered with YTB and provides outstanding China tour values including tickets to selected Olympic events.  Check out www.jccgotravel.com.

Jim and Joan want to see the world...Machu Picchu, Hawaii, Las Vegas, cruise the Rhine.  We spent a year with the Army's Dependent Schools in Frankfurt, Germany and marveled at the train connections between major European cities....Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam being only hours apart.  London is only a short ferry across the channel from Calaix, France.
