Topic Ideas for Your Blog

posted by Rebecca on Feb 23rd, 2007 at 10:42 am
You've set aside 15 minutes, poured a cup of coffee, and sat down at the computer. Sounds like you're ready to blog! Well, maybe not. Sometimes inspiration doesn't strike when you need it, and that's ok! Below are some topic ideas for when the muse isn't with you:

• product reviews
• tips
• anecdotes (short stories)
• discuss theories/hypotheses
• changes in your industry
• top ten list (or top five, twenty, etc.)
• ask a question of the audience
• state a little known fact about your business
• technical talk
• post pictures of your work
• lessons or how-to
• discuss local news

Here are a few examples:

Lessons or How-To: How To Make a Head Turning Headband
Here's a great example of a blog post with a "how-to" topic. With just three photos and simple instructions, the blogger demonstrates how to make a craft. If this is too complex, try using one photo and less detailed instructions. You can write a how-to post on any topic related to your business.

Top 10 Lists: Top 20 Motivational Hacks
One not-so-secret fact about blog readers: They love top five, ten or twenty lists. They are fun and easy to read. Plus, they make your job, as the blogger, much easier when you don't want to organize your thoughts into paragraphs. You could write your top five expert tips, top ten favorite products, or top twenty pet peeves. The possibilities are endless.

Discussing Theories or Hypotheses: The cost of leaving your PC on
As a business blogger, you're automatically an authority in your field. Why not use this opportunity to discuss a theory or hypothesis? Maybe you have a great idea to solve a common problem, or perhaps you're inspired by the ideas of other experts in your industry. In this blog post, the blogger states a problem (the excessive power consumption of his computer) and offers solutions to his readers.
