St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church

Serbian Orthodox Church, Merrillville, IN, was established in 1914 in Gary, IN. Divine Liturgy Sundays 10am, Fr. Marko Matic officiating; formerly served by Very Rev. Jovan Todorovich, retired after 36 years. Liturgical responses by Karageorge Choir. Sunday School starts 9:45am. in the new St. Sava Learning Center. Serbian School starts at 12:30 during 8-week sessions. Vespers served Tuesdays and Saturdays at 6:00 p.m. Join us, everyone welcome! Folklore dance group and choir always accepting new members. Attend Sunday Luncheons after Liturgy, hosted by families or organizations, serving delicious homemade food and desserts.
South Wing SOCIAL CENTER NOW AVAILABLE for hosting social events, newly renovated and tastefully decorated. Showers, graduation parties, meetings, Skup Svatova, wedding receptions, baptisms, birthdays, and retirements can all be accommodated.

Golf Classic at 2008 Serb Fest

The heat was extreme, but so was the fun. Turkey Creek Golf Course was filled with carts full of Serbs and their dear friends from the business community and other nearby churches. Father Marko's opening prayer is a traditional beginning for the event.The luncheon was held at the church grounds in Merrillville for the first time. T-Roma played tamburitza music for everyone's enjoyment. And of course, the lamb, pig, sarma, and cevaps were delicious too. Looks like everyone had a great time. Special thanks to all sponsors for supporting this annual fund raiser. The festival and golf outing proceeds will help fund the building of new facilities for future festivals on the Merrillville property.

Golf with The Best at Serb Fest!

Kick off the Festival Weekend with a great round of golf, followed by a delicious Serbian Buffet Luncheon. This year's golf outing will be held at Turkey Creek Golf Course Friday, August 1st. The Luncheon will be hosted at St. Sava Church, 9191 Mississippi St., in Merrillville. There are still some openings left for single golfers or foursomes. Price per Golfer is $125.00. Everyone is invited to attend "Frula"'s Fall Folklore Festival at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 22nd. Many guest folklore groups will perform and a dance will follow at St. Elijah Hall, 8700 Taft Street, Merrillville.

St. Sava's 94th Anniversary Celebration - Sunday November 23rd

Join in the celebration of St. Sava Church's 94th Anniversary on Sunday, November 23rd. Divine Liturgy will start at 10:00 a.m., followed by the Memorial Tribute on the South Lawn. The Banquet will start at 1:00 p.m. at St. Elijah's Hall. Keynote Speaker will be Fr. Dennis Pavicevich from Chicago, who has graciously accepted our invitation. Fr. Dusan Bunjevic cannot make the trip for health reasons. Please save this date marking the rich history of our church and honoring our deceased members.
