100 Year Age Difference -Youngest and Oldest Serb Fest Volunteers
6 year old Brock Tatalovich is among St. Sava's youngest Serb Fest volunteers, while Karavilka Petrovich is a graceful 106 years old.
Four generations of the Tatalovich family attended Serb Fest. Great-grandfather George Tatalovich is a WWII Veteran whose name is listed on our Memorial Monument. Mike Sr., Mike Jr., and Brock have kept alive the family tradition of roasting lambs and pigs. Brock knows when roasting is done, and helped dad carry the lambs still on the spit into the kitchen for cutting at Serb Fest. His parents, Mike and Kelly, own 513 Ale House (513 N. Main, Crown Point) where they offer Serbian specialties on the weekend menu. Brock attends Union Center Elementary in Valparaiso and is starting football practice. Thanks for your help, Brock!
Karavilka Petrovich is 106 years old and has been making palachinke since our very first Serb Fest. Karavilka, a homemaker, is Donna Erceg's mother. She was born in Yugoslavia and came to the US in 1937 and presently lives in Valparaiso with her son-in-law and daughter, Ted and Donna Erceg. She's in good health, and a lovely lady to get to know. Thanks for all your help, Karavilka!
Lamb Roasting at St. Sava's Serb Fest 2010
It takes special skills to prepare, roast, and cut lamb and pig "just the way Serbs like it". Every year, we are fortunate to be able to offer roasted lamb at our Serb Fest, thanks to the hard working men who brave the heat for 3 full days, both outdoors and in the kitchen. Fathers and sons work together: this year the Knezic's, Tomich's, and Tatalovich's were represented by 2 generations. It's nice to see them take a break to sing for a while. Srecko Suvajac plays accordion for them every year. So why aren't these men in the choir?
