Lukemia Patient Needs Serbian Bone Marrow Donor - Please Be Tested

posted by dorothyp on Mar 18th, 2011 at 8:57 am

In an extremely urgent appeal, the Serbian Community has pulled together to rally fellow Serbs to be tested to be a match for bone marrow transplant. Jelena Stojakovich, a 31 year old college student from Trbinje, is working on her P.H.D. at the University of North Carolina. She is suffering from Lukemia. A Serbian donor gives her the best chance for survival. The testing is simple - a cheek swab. The current testing schedule is posted below. Please watch the videos for more information.

Anna Pavichevich wrote: They are keeping Jelena in remission with chemotherapy. They are making arrangements to take her to Seattle to do a transplant with cord stem cells that are not a match. This is very risky and does not have a high chance of success. WE HAVE TO FIND THE MATCH quickly!

Schedule of drives:

Blessing of Homes Schedule

posted by dorothyp on Jan 27th, 2011 at 12:15 am

Dear members and parishioners of St. Sava Church,

It is time for blessing of homes. The following schedule will inform you as to when I will be in your area.

---Fr. Marko Matic

The sanctification of the home takes place with prayer and the sprinkling of Holy Water. The priest, at this annual visit, asks God to have mercy on the house, to rid it of every evil and to fill if with every blessing. Everyone of the house, prays together for the living and the dead of the family, and all who live and have lived in the house. They all sing the hymn of salivation and progress from room to room while the priest blesses the house.

Pre - School Launches New Website and Scholarship Fund

posted by dorothyp on Jun 26th, 2010 at 12:28 am

EXCITING NEWS FROM PRE - SCHOOL!

New Website for The Learning Center at St. Sava

Tlcenterpreschool.com - Check it out!

Message Below is from Ljubica Popovich:

We have an excellent new curriculum in place for the new school year and our wonderful teacher, Biljana Damnjanovic, is looking forward to getting things rolling.  As always, thank you for your support in this new and exciting endeavor.  It is an investment not only into the next generation but the overall community at St. Sava.

As part of the TLC Preschool we are in the process of setting up a College Scholarship Fund, to be awarded in May 2011 to one (possibly two) of our deserving young adults heading off to college (or currently slaving away at college)! It is a nice way to not only help the little ones develop a love of learning but to help out those that continue to invest in their education.  They ARE the future of our community!  With your help we can start helping them out more and more each year!
Special thanks go out to Fr. Marko for his vision and unflagging support, Dennis Svilar for his encouragement and savvy business acumen, Miss Biki for her tremendous patience and hard work with the kids, and to all of the parents (you know who you are!!) that have poured their time, energy and money into the pre-school so far.  Without all of you this would not be possible!

Summer Camp
9:30 - 12:30 Summer Explosion Camp, ages 3 yr to 3rd grade.  Snacks are provided.
July 12-16 --- Instructors are Sandy Sinovic, Kathy Barovic, Tracy Schwerin
Lots of activities involving sports, art/crafts and water games.
Fall Pre-School Information:
The Learning Center Community Preschool
Offered M,W,F from 9:30 -12:00 - The teacher is Biljana Damnjanovic - she has a degree in Early Childhood Education.  We have constructed a new curriculum to enhance the development and learning of the children and to help them develop a love of learning.  Classes are open to the community and are limited in size. Each child will receive individual attention.  Parents are encouraged to participate in the Parent Co-Op Program where parents sign up to participate and help the teacher during the lessons.  For any information, people can check out the website, call me at 708-539-8134 or email the preschool at Tlcenter1@sbcglobal.net
An Open House will be held in July and August for parents to meet the teacher and see the facilities.

44th Annual SOCA Festival Concert Photos

posted by dorothyp on Jun 17th, 2009 at 10:40 pm

The Main Event was the SOCA Festival Concert hosted by St. George Church in Clearwater, Florida on Saturday, June 13th at noon. The Sunshine State host parish worked very hard to prepare for this unforgettable concert. Each choir director took a turn directing the mass choir anthems and various songs. This year's musical selection for the mass choir was "St. George Troparion", directed by Mr. John Vukovich from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The following choirs participated in this year's festival program:

Stevan Mokranjac Choir, Hamilton, Canada, John Vukovich, Director

St. Sava Choir, St. Petersburg, Florida, Emil Esapovich, Director

S.S.S. Karageorge, Merrillville, Indiana, Kim Simic, Kathy Baroevich, Directors

St. Archangel Michael, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Petar Drobac, Director

Draza Mihajlovich Choir, Cudahy, Wisconsin, Karen Wortchow, Director

Stevan Mokranjac/Branko Radicevich, Chicago, Illinois, Elizabeth Neskow, Director

Very Rev. Father John Todorovich, President Zoran Milic, Dobrinka Milic, Kolo Sisters, Peter Puhar, and the membership of St. George Church were gracious hosts, and provided everyone with a wonderful lifelong memory. Thanks for hosting this special weekend in beautiful, sunny Florida.

Thanks once again to Jelena Mulin for the wonderful pictures!
