Three things to know.
Moving Planet is a global day of climate action taking place on September 24, 2011.
On that day, we will put our demands for climate action into motion—marching, biking, skating—calling for the world to go beyond fossil fuels. If there are no events nearby, think about starting a new event in your community.
Moving Planet is almost here! There are just three things you need to know:
1) It's going to be absolutely huge, and you don’t want to miss it -- there will be thousands of events this weekend, from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe and just about everywhere in between. There will be rallies and marches and teach-ins and protests of all kinds. If you don't know which event is closest to you on Saturday, click here to search the map.
2) It's vitally important. The truth is, we've got lots of work to do to solve the climate crisis: big polluters are doing everything in their power to delay real climate action, and they are spending huge amounts of money to distort the truth and block progress. But this weekend's events can show the world that a vibrant movement is coming to life -- and that people everywhere are ready to do whatever it takes to move the world beyond fossil fuels.
3) It's about to begin! At the easternmost edge of the earth, Moving Planet Day is about to dawn. That means there's not much time left to spread the word to all your networks -- on Facebook, on Twitter, and everywhere else.
Members of the 350.org team will be in New York City on Saturday, stationed right across the street from the United Nations Headquarters. They’re going to set up big screens to show photos and videos from events around the world, ensuring that UN delegates and the global media understand the breadth, power, beauty, and size of the growing grassroots climate movement.
So after you go to an event, hurry to a computer and send your best photo as an attachment to firstname.lastname@example.org. (Put your city and country in the subject line, and a short description in the body of the email. You can see full instructions for photo submission here.) We won't just be showing your photos at the UN -- we'll be sending them to the global media, lobbying with them at international climate negotiations, and making YouTube videos to inspire the world.
Saturday's events can’t change the world overnight -- but they can be a spark that jump-starts a much bigger and broader movement, a movement that the world needs now more than ever before. We know that our work will continue long after this one day is over.
If you participate this weekend, you’re going to be part of something very big, and something very important. When you’re at your local event on Saturday, remember this: whatever you’re feeling, there are people all over the world feeling just the same way, moving in just the same ways, dreaming of just the same future.

What is 350? 350 is the number that leading scientists say is the safe upper limit for carbon dioxide in our atmosphere. Scientists measure carbon dioxide in "parts per million" (ppm), so 350ppm is the number humanity needs to get below as soon as possible to avoid runaway climate change. To get there, we need a different kind of PPM–a "people powered movement" that is made of people like you in every corner of the planet.
